**13. What is Direct and Indirect Sunlight?
1- **What is the difference between direct and indirect sunlight?**
- **Direct sunlight** refers to sunlight that hits an object straight from the sun without any obstruction. **Indirect sunlight** is sunlight that is diffused or reflected, meaning it doesn't directly hit the object but still illuminates the area.
2. **Why is direct sunlight harmful to display frames and artwork?**
- Direct sunlight can cause fading, discoloration, and deterioration of artwork and photographs over time. UV rays from the sun can break down pigments and materials, leading to irreversible damage.
3. **Can indirect sunlight damage my frames and cards ?**
- While indirect sunlight is less intense than direct sunlight, prolonged exposure can still cause some fading or damage. It's always best to minimise exposure to any form of sunlight to preserve the longevity of your cards and frames.
4. **How can I protect my framed cards from sunlight?**
- **Use UV-protective polycarbonate:** These materials can block most harmful UV rays.
- **Choose appropriate locations:** Hang your frames in areas that do not receive direct sunlight.
- **Window treatments:** Use curtains, blinds, or UV-filtering window films to reduce sunlight exposure.
- **Rotate your frames:** Periodically changing the location of your frames can help minimise prolonged exposure to sunlight.
5. **Is it safe to hang picture frames near windows?**
- It depends on the type of sunlight the area receives. Frames near windows that receive indirect sunlight are generally safer, especially if UV-protective Polycarbonate is used. However, it is best to avoid placing frames where they will be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.
